The Whole Enchilada (or taco recipe) and Dealing with Toxic Relationships.

Yes, relationships. It all boils to relationships (not the taco, thou.) 😉

Hello again!

I will be sharing the taco recipe today along with this post… Ingredients first.

 

Step One.

Ingredients

2 cups hydrated hibiscus flower

2 red tomatoes, diced

¼ white onion finely chopped

1 jalapeno or serrano chili pepper, finely diced

¼ cup coriander (cilantro)

½ teaspoon olive oil

1 jicama in very thin slices (these are your tortillas)

Salsa, and lime juice

 

As for the toxic relationship: a person exhibiting toxic behaviors and another person buying in them. PERIOD.

You might have noticed that on my other posts I stress three things: a behavior, someone buying in and an unhealthy dance or toxic relationship they have.

Again, it takes two to tango. Maybe because of my background as a humanistic counsellor, in Gestalt and on Robbinss-Madanes training I tend to focus on empowerment and the possibility of healing. I typically do not tag others and do not diagnose in my coaching or in my practice. That’s for Psychiatrists, and DSM V criteria. But I.Don’t.Do.That.

 

Step Two.

Break the pattern. Yes, you heard me well, break the pattern. And I will set forth three roads for you to choose from, because I believe what Tony says, a choice implies at least three options.

One. Leave the scene or the relationship. On the leave part you can do it either physically or emotionally. Be bolder and do both? I know some of these relationships might be family, so the emotional part (even the physical one) might be difficult and seem impossible.

Two. Learn to laugh at yourself and take things with humor. Chances are the offender might be caught off track and either stop in the turmoil come back with a vengeance. Still take it with humor, as you’ve been warned.

Three. Observe from love. Yes, you heard well, from love, specifically SELF-LOVE. Instead of understanding and making puzzles around THEIR behavior. Take a step back, pause and love yourself more. That’s the first step to be unhooked from it all.

Ah, the taco recipe:

How to make the tacos:

  1. Put the hibiscus to boil in water for 5 to 8 minutes at medium to high heat. (You can use the concentrated tea that comes from its boiling and keep it to prepare hibiscus water, a Mexican delicacy).
  2. Dice the hibiscus in fine chops.
  3. Rinse in tap water. If the hibiscus is still a bit stiff, set it to boil for another 5 to 8 minutes.
  4. In a hot pan, warm a bit of oil and cook for the tomato, the onion and the chili peppers for 5 minutes, if you don’t want for it to be a hot dish you can remove the seeds from the peppers or not add them at all.
  5. Add the diced hibiscus flower, the coriander and a pinch of salt and pepper.

 

 

Step Three

 

Take steps forward to get out of the toxic relationships and you will see your life improve.

You will notice an increase of happiness, energy and positivity in your life. Sooo… #StepUp

Oh, oh, serve the hibiscus in the jicama and enjoy your tacos. You can add salsa, the lime juice or go bold and add guacamole!

The title of this article is based upon this quote:

“I believe in music, the way some people believe in fairy tales… All you have to do is LISTEN.” – August Rush.

I have a wide number of favorite movies, but perhaps among the most influential  in my life was this, August Rush. Long story short, I am VERY sensitive to music and harmony.

So, let’s play with that quote for a bit and change music for harmony or balance. For your life, for your relationships, in your body and even for your business.. Allow for me to elaborate a bit.

“A system operates to serve or heal its weakest link.” So  to prevent that, organize and prioritize so you cater to your largest drivers and/or most necessary relationships first. Yes, even relationships within your body.

So going a little deeper and focusing solely on one’s self. Do you hear chatter all day long about things that are beyond your control to fix? Well, silence those and focus on what you CAN fix! Listen to your body after you eat something – do you feel bloated? Lacking energy? So, perhaps that specific food (or amount) does not suit you. How do you feel after you exercise? More energized or totally depleted?

Can you see where I am headed? One of the keys to leading a balanced life and achieving all of your dreams or the dreams in the key areas of your life, is Listening to your own body.

Leading a harmonious life from within will naturally reflect on healthier and more nurturing relationships with yourself by being able to transcend negative patterns, thoughts and emotions; and consequently with others.

Leading a more harmonious life while listening to your body will translate in feeling more energized, becoming more efficient and having more time to do what counts!

Leading a more harmonious life while listening to Spirit, God, or your inner self will naturally have you at peace, more focused, more able to deal with problems and stressful situations more wisely…

However, that kind of listening goes above and beyond active listening (which involves all your senses). I will call this kind of listening, observant listening which allows for you to recognize patterns, “side effects” (like for example when you get bloated or not), and find leverage on those things or activities that will nurture you to grow.

Hello everyone!

Come, learn how to Chunkytize and Make time to Have Time. The key is on how you get to do things.

Here are some tricks to it.

1) Do the things that are IMPORTANT, so they don’t become urgent. In this category I usually include, self-care. Spa time? Not really, or not what I am refering to; block one hour a day (at least) to read, meditate and exercise. Don’t worry it’s not one hour each. If blocking an hour for yourself seems impossible start with 15 minutes. Don’t have time to meditate? Practice mindfulness  Read this article for some ideas on how to:.Have a Date With Mindfulness

2) Block times for family and friends I know that is super hard if you’re a working mom. I try to do “smart multitasking” for that matter which means I cook/bake while I work and set up alarms to get my dish on time. I do the same with reading/meditating or exercising (at home) and laundry.

3) Ditch your to do list. Yes, that’s right! Ditch your to do list. Pick the three most important things on those per day and only three. – Try it for a week, the rest will “magically” take care of itself. Trust me. Ok  don’t trust me, just try it for seven days!

Tip: join any of our challenges or coaching options to  get an extra boost!

4) Change those three things as needed through the week (think of your high-school/college schedule) some subjects happened every day, some didn’t.

5) Block some personal time – no, this is not your hour for self this personal time is just like when you ask for it at corporate – for emergencies, I block like 1-3 hours per day for this matter.


Have fun building your schedule! And my personal tip for this is… Make your goals a little flexible – use words like by and about Yes, I am familiar (and use) the SMART goal system (Speciic, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time constrained) BUT try using abou xx kilos/ pounds/ $$ and by x, y date, instead.

SELF-EMPOWERMENT Day 2

Going in deeper. In our last article, I shared my definition of self-esteem; to accept and love yourself inconditionally, you will need to know yourself. So in today’s article I am sharing a compilation of exercises that have worked for knowing and accepting my self better.
The first exercise is all about boosting your self-confidence. For this exercise you will ask five people that are either very close to you or you think that they know you very well, to wrtie down your five top qualities. When you have gathered all the information, read it with care, pay attention if there are any coincidences between them. Write down for yourself the ones that flatter you most, and the ones that you have heard more often.
If you’re anything like me you’re either super self-demanding or overly-critical of yourself, so there is no judge harsher than yourself. On a separate sheet of paper write down (in penicl) your three top flaws, the ones you consider your very worst traits. Now breathe deep, get a theasarus or use Google to find their antonyms.Now write down a sentence stating the ways in which you have used or acted using the positive side of your biggest flaw. For example, I know I am (or can be) very stubborn, the positive side is persistance. A sentence using persistance that I have done in my life, Is “Persist until success is iminent.”

The Secret Society of Personal Growth. Huh?

Exactly my thoughts!

As a Life and Business Coach I was amazed to see how Facebook Satatistics just do NOT like personal growth. Just check their ads options. Personal Growth, you’re limiting your audience too much. Whoa!

So I decided to launch this one article into infinity and speak about personal growth.  The way I see it, growth is the key  to living and the fuiel to our dreams! Why personal? Well, because the one growing is you!

Now, I have seen those that sit comfortable with their lives and project no growth whatsoever in their future, so I will ask you. What are you afraid of?

I have seen those running like a hamster in a wheel for their “balanced” routine, and I would like to ask you. What are you escaping from?

And I have seen the opposite, people wanting to thrive in life, people of any age making an every day choice to llive as if this was the adventure it IS!

The difference? The people in the latter group are about growth. About facing challenges and problems, with a smile on their faces and their head held high, these are people with a powerful WHY. People invested in LIVING, giving, growing and sharing.

Why not express it in a Bucket List, you can look at mine (on the picture of this post)  and peek in how all can be turned into goals. All too, speak of a larger purpose,

“The Purpose and Contribuiton Conundrum”

Some years ago, I didn’t even want to talk about having a purpose let alone transcending in any way. As time went by, I discovered that there are no greater drivers at any age than growth, purpose and contribution. When I faced depression for having lost my main income, most of my work and got a divorce (both huge breakthroughs from toxicity, but still a loss) and then my 5 day old cat died in front of me of feline panleukopemia – even if she was already a rag when I got her to the vet. I had to regroup and rebuild myself brick to brick in the awareness to evolve from said toxicity and build a stronger, happier,more fulfilling life.

Shortly after, I met a man that changed my life – he said the magic words… Discover a life by serving another, that will give purpose and meaning to yours.

Ah! then my focus started on looking for ways in which I could change the world doing exactly what I loved. My search got me to several different answers – teaching people how to eat better building and focusing on a purpose greater than I am got me up every day. I was already a learning and kind of a wellness/ fitness junkie at that point.

Soon, I discovered that three things were key to one’s life – Growth, Purpose and Contribution.

Having a purpose means giving meaning to your life, having a reason to get up.

Making said purpose about contribution gives it the pull of making it about something greater than yourself.

As in anything in life, I’d recommend you start small.

You can start with a gesture, a good tip. Really seeing and acknowledging those who cater to you in any way a waiter, the valet, bus driver, etc..

Give away a smile, giving away your time and experience to help others.

Start a charity, volunteer or give away your time and talent to help others.

Live a life with purpose and get up with a smile on your face!
